B.C. man charged with killing father says he will plead guilty to murder

KAMLOOPS, B.C. – A B.C. man has told a judge he intends to plead guilty to second-degree murder in the killing of his father.

Forty-six-year-old Jaipreet Singh is accused of stabbing his father, 79-year-old Harsewak Singh Toor, 30 times in the chest in March of last year outside the family’s home.

Singh has told a B.C. Supreme Court judge that he’s prepared to plead guilty to second-degree murder, which carries a minimum sentence of life with no parole for 10 years and a maximum of no parole for 25 years.

Singh is representing himself after firing two previous lawyers.

His surprise announcement prompted Judge Hope Hyslop to urge him to seek further legal advice.

Singh’s next court appearance is September 23rd.
