Over two kilometres of median barrier coming to Vernon

VERNON – A new median barrier separating northbound and southbound traffic will be installed along a stretch of Highway 97 in Vernon, improving safety for motorists by preventing cross-over incidents.

"Median barriers ensure vehicles stay in their lane and prevent crossing into oncoming traffic,” said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Claire Trevena. “This project will get underway in the coming weeks, and will be completed by the end of October.”

Approximately 2.5 kilometres of median barrier will be installed along Highway 97 starting south of Stickle Road and continuing to 48th Avenue. Kon Kast Products Ltd. from Kelowna has been awarded the $346,000 contract.

On average, 23,000 vehicle trips are made every day along this section of the highway.
