Blue Bombers coach hopes defence can put together another great game

WINNIPEG – Winnipeg Blue Bombers tailback Chad Simpson is expected to miss Saturday’s game against the Edmonton Eskimos with a foot injury, but he should be back next week.

The CFL team also says offensive lineman Paul Swiston has been placed on the nine-game injured list.

Winnipeg head coach Tim Burke says he may insert newly acquired lineman Marc Parenteau into the lineup. He was picked up Monday in a trade with Toronto for running back Anthony Woodson and a draft pick.

Burke says he hopes his defence can put together a performance like the one it delivered in a gritty 25-13 upset win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders last Sunday. But he adds the Edmonton offence presents a different kind of challenge.

Two Winnipeg players have been recognized by the CFL for their efforts last week.

Defensive back Demond Washington was named defensive player of the week and teammate Will Ford took the special-teams nod.
