More lanes for dangerous section of Trans-Canada

KAMLOOPS – The second phase of the Hoffman’s Bluff highway improvement project is going to tender on Monday.

About 3.1 kilometres of the Trans-Canada between Kamloops and Chase will be widened from two to four lanes, according to a media release from the Ministry of Transportation.

The Ministry calls that section of highway “one of the most challenging” between Pritchard and Hoffman’s Bluff.

The total cost of the highway project is $61.6-million dollars with $26.9-million from the federal government and $34.7-million from the province.

The first phase of the project is currently underway and includes widening 2.8 km from two to four lanes.

The contract for phase two will be awarded by the end of the year with construction scheduled to start in the spring of 2015 and be finished by the fall of 2016.
