Montreal mayor hopefuls play politics with baseball

MONTREAL – Hockey season is approaching but baseball is on the minds of two candidates for Montreal mayor.

Marcel Cote tweeted today that he will work with the business community to bring baseball back to Montreal.

Cote says bringing a team to Montreal is one of his priorities.

Not to be outdone, candidate Denis Coderre tweeted that he’s glad to see his rivals also support the return of the Expos.

Coderre, a former federal Liberal MP, says says he’s been working on the matter for months.

The Expos played in Montreal between 1969 until 2004 until Major League Baseball awarded the franchise to Washington.

There has been a move in recent years by Expos fans to get a franchise back in the city.
