One vehicle recovered as another one goes missing in rural break-in

PENTICTON – One vehicle was recovered but two are still missing after thieves swapped a stolen vehicle during a residential break-in at St. Andrews by the Lake Golf Course yesterday.

Police spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says police responded to a break-in at a St. Andrews Drive home at the golf course on White Lake Road yesterday, Oct. 9 at approximately 7:20 a.m.

An attached garage at the address was broken into, with security video showing a man with his face covered disconnecting the video camera. An ipad and keys to a truck were stolen, and a jeep was broken into.

Wrigglesworth says police also recovered a 1993 Dodge Grand Caravan at the scene, which they discovered had been stolen from a residence in the 5900 block of Highway 97 in Peachland on Oct. 6. The Peachland van owners had reported the theft of a purse with identification, cash, cell phones and credit cards.

A second vehicle, a 2004 Dodge Caravan, was also reported stolen in the same incident. Both vans had been filled with antiques destined for an antique show at the time.

Around 10:15 a.m., yesterday, police received a call from a neighbouring St. Andrews Drive resident, who reported his 2017 Ford Escape with B.C. plate EN375A stolen sometime overnight.

The 2004 Dodge Caravan and the 2017 Ford Escape have not been recovered.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
