Bosnian police arrest 6 war crimes suspects

SARAJEVO, Bosnia – Police have arrested six former Bosnian Serb soldiers suspected of having killed 27 Muslim Bosnians during the Serb campaign to remove all non-Serbs from territories they took control of during the 1992-95 Bosnian war.

A statement from the prosecution office said the men arrested Tuesday in northwest Bosnia are suspected of participating in the expulsion, torture and killings of the Muslim Bosniak population in the area in 1992.

The six allegedly separated 27 men from their families, tortured them and made them dig their own mass grave before killing and burying them. After the war, the suspects allegedly uncovered the remains they could find and threw them into the river to cover up the crime. Prosecutors say that is why only six victims have been found.
