Calgary mayor wants answers from Canadian Pacific about train derailment in city

CALGARY – Calgary’s mayor wants answers after eight Canadian Pacific rail cars full of chemicals derailed during rush hour Wednesday at a rail yard in the city.

No one was hurt and none of the cars that were carrying a diluting agent used in oil pipelines leaked.

Naheed (NAH’-hed) Nenshi says two CP (TSX:CP) train derailments within the city in a little over two months is too many.

He says the derailment could have put thousands of people at risk and the city had a hard time getting an answer from CP about what was in the rail cars.

Nenshi says he wants to speak with CP CEO Hunter Harrison about the latest derailment to see if the company really does consider safety a primary objective.

CP Rail officials could not immediately be reached for comment.
