Imam at Port Coquitlam, B.C., mosque charged with sexual assault

COQUITLAM, B.C. – Mounties says an imam at a Port Coquitlam, B.C., mosque has been charged with sexual assault.

Police say they began an investigation in June after a complaint about an incident that allegedly occurred at the Masjid Al-Hidaya and Islamic Cultural Centre in Port Coquitlam.

Police say Crown counsel approved one charge of sexual assault against Saddeldin Bahr, who also is known in the community as Dr. Saad.

Police say the Coquitlam RCMP Sex Crimes Unit is investigating the current allegation against Bahr and is interested in hearing from anyone who may be able to advance the investigation.

Police also say there’s a possibility of more victims and investigators are encouraging anyone with information to come forward.

Bahr will make his first appearance in court on Sept. 23.
