Medical incident caused runaway semi in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS – A medical incident resulted in a runaway semi truck crossing over the highway before coming to a rest in a ditch.

Yesterday on the Trans-Canada Highway around 4:45 p.m. a single vehicle tractor trailer ended up in the eastbound slow lane and ditch after crossing the highway over the concrete barrier striking the highway standard lights and signals at Highland road, according to a Kamloops RCMP release issued yesterday, Oct. 13.

There were no other vehicles involved in the incident.

The eastbound lane was reduced to a single lane while emergency service investigated the incident, however, all lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway were opened around 6 p.m. yesterday says Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Robert Daly.

At the time of the incident, the driver of the tractor-trailer was transported to Royal Inland Hospital for assessment.

Police did not release the name of the semi driver, the status of his condition, or what caused the medical incident.
