Scam relies on the kindness of others

Police say a hard-luck-hoaxer is manipulating people to open their wallets and depart with their hard earned cash.
In the past week, Kelowna RCMP have received dozens of complaints about a man approaching them to ask for money because he's having car trouble or needs a tow. The going rate for the hoax is $40. Police say the amount represents a significant hit to the pocket-book though it's not enough to make a person overly reluctant to part with it.
After the man receives the cash, he runs.
"If you're approached in a similar manner, don't fall for this hard-luck scenario," says Const. Kris Clark. "Sammers will continue to sell their deceit as long as people are willing to buy it."
