KAMLOOPS – A Kamloops man who pointed a gun at police last year during a drug raid was handed a lifetime firearms ban today in Kamloops Supreme Court.

Jacques Bedard pleaded guilty today to pointing a firearm after an incident on Jan. 18, 2012.

Kamloops RCMP used a search warrant to enter Bedard's Holt St. home. When they entered, Bedard was aiming a loaded pistol at them, thinking someone was breaking in.

The Crown stayed five other charges in light of the guilty plea including possession of a prohibited restricted firearm with ammunition, unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless use of a firearm, knowingly possessing a prohibited weapon without a license and carrying or having in possession weapons or firearms.

Bedard was handed a conditional sentence order of one year — a sentence to be served within the community — along with the firearms prohibition.
