Trees toppled by high winds in Skaha Lake Park
PENTICTON – Skaha Lake Park in Penticton was closed for a period of time today after wind gusts knocked down several trees.
JoAnne Kleb with the city says the park was closed today, Oct. 17, after seven large pine trees were knocked down, damaging the hockey court.
Kleb says staff have secured areas where other trees are down or are leaning.
Other parts of the park have since reopened. Visitors are asked to avoid secured areas as staff monitor the park and clean up operations get underway.
The damage from today’s storm was much less severe than during a windstorm in 2007 when around 120 trees in the park were toppled.
