E.coli warning, officials say one dead, 10 sick, linked to B.C. raw cheese
EDMONTON – One person has died and 10 people have fallen ill from an outbreak of E. coli linked to raw cheese produced at a farm in Salmon Arm, B.C.
The Public Health Agency of Canada says the person who died was from British Columbia.
The agency says the people who are ill include three people in B.C. and seven people in Alberta and warns there could be more cases.
It says all of these people got sick between mid-July and early September.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning people not to eat certain products produced by Gort’s Gouda Cheese Farm because they may be contaminated with E. coli 0157:H7.
The agency says these unpasteurized cheese products sold in B.C. and Alberta between May 27 to Sept. 14 are being recalled.
E. coli is a bacteria that can cause severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, kidney failure and death.
