DARIEN, Conn. – Supporters including U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal have gathered for a rally in Darien on behalf of a Connecticut man charged with killing a hotel worker while on vacation in Anguilla.
Scott Hapgood and his family say a hotel worker showed up at their room unannounced during their April vacation and demanded money before attacking them. Hapgood is facing a Nov. 11 hearing in the British Caribbean territory.
The Democratic senator said at the rally Monday he wants assurances that the proceedings will be transparent and that Hapgood will be allowed to remain free on bail.
Hapgood spoke at the rally and offered thanks for the support from the community, elected officials, and the White House counsel.
President Donald Trump tweeted this month he would “be looking into” the case.
