Kelowna Legion needs 300 more volunteers for Remembrance Day poppy drive

KELOWNA – The Kelowna Legion is in desperate need of more volunteers for their annual poppy drive.

The drive, which raises money for veterans and their families, starts this Friday of Oct. 27 and runs everyday until Nov. 10, the day before Remembrance Day.

Last year hundreds of volunteers raised over $200,000, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26 office manager Joy Wallace says.

“The campaign is one day longer than last year,” she says. “One day longer makes quite a difference.”

Wallace estimates they will need roughly 300 more volunteers to keep the 21 shifts at all 17 Kelowna locations manned.

“We have gone through our entire list of members, we’ve also called volunteers from last year who are not Legion members. Many have stepped up but we’re still quite short of volunteers.”

If you or someone you know can spare some time to volunteer this year please call the Poppy Office at 250-762-2961 and ask for Greg or Joy, or stop by the Royal Canadian Legion at 1380 Bertram St. The Kelowna Poppy Office is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
