North Okanagan Mountie intends to fight charge of driving without due care

VERNON – The case against a North Okanagan cop charged in connection with a motorcycle crash last year will go to trial.

Const. Megan Valenta, born in 1977, faces one count of driving without due care and attention in relation to an Aug. 6, 2016 incident on Highway 6.

Valenta was on duty and driving an RCMP truck when she collided with a motorcycle. A man and woman riding the motorcycle were seriously injured.

During a court appearance today, Oct. 26, Valenta’s lawyer Neville McDougall said she intends to plead not guilty.

The case was put over to Nov. 8 to fix a date for the trial, which is expected to be about five days long.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.
