HARRISBURG, Pa. – A Pennsylvania man who flew into a rage when his girlfriend said she was moving out has been sentenced to prison for trying to slit her throat with scissors and hitting her with a hammer.
Sixty-one-year-old Larry Cathey was sentenced Wednesday to 17 to 34 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges including attempted homicide.
Prosecutors say Cathey became enraged in September 2016 when his girlfriend said she planned on moving out of their Harrisburg apartment to be closer to her family. They say he tried to slice her throat, then stabbed her, hit her with the back of a hammer and gave her pills, causing her to lose consciousness.
The woman regained consciousness the next day and crawled to a neighbour’s apartment for help.
