Zarif calls talks constructive, hopes to allay concerns over Iran’s nuclear program
Iran’s foreign minister is calling nuclear talks with world powers “very constructive” and “very substantive” and says he hopes to allay any concern that Tehran’s activities are not peaceful.
Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif made clear Thursday that his country is hoping through negotiations to win a complete lifting of international sanctions imposed on Iran over its disputed nuclear activities.
He said he wants to see progress in a short time.
“We hope to be able to make progress to solve this issue in a timely fashion,” he said.
Zarif spoke after he met foreign ministers from the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council and Germany on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
Afterward, Kerry and Zarif also met one-on-one for a short time.
