Armstrong council refuses to hear request for Taylor Van Diest Memorial Trail

ARMSTRONG – A plea for support in maintaining the Taylor Van Diest Memorial Trail will have to wait another couple weeks.

Marie Van Diest, whose daughter Taylor was murdered Halloween night 2011, intended to ask Armstrong council for help with the upkeep of her daughter’s memorial trail Monday, but council wouldn’t hear her because she wasn’t officially on the agenda.

She’ll have to file her request with the city and bring it up at the next meeting two weeks from now.

The Taylor Jade Van Diest Memorial Trail runs parallel to the train tracks where the Armstrong teen was killed at the hand of Matthew Foerster, found guilty of first degree murder last month.

Marie says the trail, which opened June 23, 2013, is getting overrun with weeds and wants the city to play a bigger role maintaining it.
