Baltimore mayor’s spokesman resigns hours after getting job

BALTIMORE – Here today. Gone today.

A former police officer chosen as the Baltimore mayor’s new spokesman resigned from the position the very same day he was introduced to reporters at City Hall.

Darryl Strange had just posed for photographs Wednesday with Mayor Catherine Pugh, who touted her new spokesman’s background as an ex-policeman and a “very proud resident.”

But Strange abruptly resigned hours later after The Baltimore Sun inquired about three lawsuits during his tenure on the force that cost taxpayers roughly $80,000. One lawsuit included an allegation of wrongdoing during a traffic stop. In an interview, Strange told the newspaper he never admitted to any wrongdoing.

The mayor told the paper that Strange was still being vetted when she introduced him.
