MLSE looking at roof for BMO Field, shoots down talk of artificial turf
TORONTO – Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment is looking at roof options for BMO Field.
Tim Leiweke, president and CEO, says he plans to bring roof options to the MLSE board in October.
His goal is to find a way to build a cover without having to leave the stadium during construction.
The city of Toronto owns the stadium but Leiweke says MLSE has promised to pay for all the renovations.
A roof could cost $100-million-plus. The stadium itself cost some $62 million to build.
Leiweke also told a breakfast of Toronto FC supporters that the stadium would never revert to artificial turf.
