MERRITT – A Merritt RCMP officer has been charged with assault in relation to an incident that occurred at the detachment earlier this year.
The B.C. Prosecution Service says in a news release an information with one charge of assault against Sgt. Norm Flemming was sworn on Nov. 9, in relation to a May 15 incident at the Merritt RCMP detachment.
The news release states the first appearance on this matter is slated for Dec. 5 in Merritt Provincial Court. The prosecution service says the charge was approved by an experienced Crown counsel located in a different part of the province.
The Crown has no prior or current connection with the officer, according to the release.
While matters proceed before the court, the prosecution service will not be releasing any further information at this time.
