UPDATE: Threat made against Kamloops Walmart was unfounded

KAMLOOPS – The online threat that prompted the evacuation of the Walmart store in Kamloops today was false, according to police.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a news release that police were notified of a threat made against the store at approximately 12:10 p.m. today, Nov. 13. Now, the store has reopened after a search found no threat.

Shelkie says the threat was made online and people monitoring the public website reported the threats to police.

Kamloops RCMP worked with Walmart management to evacuate the store until it was proven safe for employees and customers.

"Police officers are on scene and assisting Walmart Management in securing the business," said Shelkie. "There have been no injuries or any physical threat found within the store.  Once the premises have been thoroughly secured, customers will be allowed back in."

Police officers are speaking with the individual who moderates the webpage that the threat was displayed on to ascertain the origin of the threat.

Police did not say what type of threat was made against Walmart or if there are any suspects in the case.

The investigation is ongoing.
