Why I ride: Passionate Nobodies filmmaker turns lens on self

KELOWNA – The Kelowna man responsible for bringing the passions of everyday locals to the screen has turned the lens on himself.

Clayton Arnall’s documentary series Passionate Nobodies features average people doing above average things. He’s filmed a self-portrait artist, a wood worker, a street performer and now he is sharing his own passion.

It’s called Why I ride – A self portrait motorcycle video.

The four and a half minute video starts with a moody electric guitar playing track against a black and white video image of Arnall pushing his bike.

“My landlord makes me push my bike past the gate of my property before I start it,” he narrates. “He says there have been complaints.”

With an apology to his mother in the description, Arnall’s latest project looks at the links between safety, risk and reward.

“It’s the danger that makes it worthwhile,” he says. “If it wasn’t dangerous would it even be fun? I’m not trying to prove anything to anyone, but I don’t want to live in fear. I think I’d rather dance with that thing that scares me.”

Like all of his films, Arnall uses professional equipment, including drones, quality music score and many recognizable Okanagan landscapes.

“What’s the point of this video?" He asks. “To be honest I don’t even know. Maybe there’s no lessons here, except you probably shouldn’t ride motorcycles. They are much too dangerous. You should probably just stay at home on your couch where it’s safe.”
