Saskatoon tops when it comes to preventing second-hand smoke:study
SASKATOON – People in Saskatoon are breathing a little easier than those in Regina.
A new study rates Saskatoon No. 1 when it comes to preventing second hand smoke.
Regina was rated 16 out of 26 Canadian cities.
A report from the Canadian Paternship Against Cancer put Saskatoon in the top spot because of the city’s strict and far-reaching smoking bylaws.
Regina Mayor Michael Fougere says city council looked at smoking bylaws a few years ago and they did outlaw smoking in restaurants and bars, but not on patios.
He said the city will meet with the cancer agency soon, but he doesn’t want to do anything unless they have some public consultations.
“We want to see what people’s mood is on this one,” Fougere said
“For the moment we’ve reached a compromise and we have not had public concern about this raised since we changed our bylaw a few years ago.”
