Reports: Small plane lands safely on US street
SAN JOSE, Calif. – A small plane has landed safely amid the morning commute on a city street in the heart of Silicon Valley.
San Jose police spokeswoman Sgt. Heather Randol says shortly after takeoff around 8 a.m. Thursday the pilot experienced a malfunction and made the emergency landing. She said neither the pilot nor the passenger on board was injured and no one on the ground was hurt.
The craft managed to avoid traffic on the roadway and pulled off into a right-turn lane. Traffic was only lightly affected.
The Bellanca 7ECA fixed-wing, single-engine aircraft is owned by Amelia Reid Aviation LLC, a company that operates a flight training school out of nearby Reid Hillview airport in east San Jose, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
