Smoke you see in Okanagan may not be an emergency

KELOWNA – The Kelowna Fire Department is appealing to the public not to call 911 if they see a plume of smoke in the Okanagan Valley.

Platoon Capt. Dennis Miller says in a media release issued today, Nov. 19, members of the B.C. Wildfire Service and other agencies are conducting controlled burns up and down the valley.

Miller says the burns can be “very visible from the valley bottoms.”

The burns are permitted, he says, and asked the public not to call 911 to report these fires.
