The Latest: Maine legislators re-elect AG Mills
AUGUSTA, Maine – The Latest on the Maine legislature (all times local):
5:36 p.m.
Maine legislators re-elected Democratic Attorney General Janet Mills following last-minute competition from Republican Josh Tardy.
Over the last year, Mills and her office have been at odds with GOP Gov. Paul LePage over the public meeting law and the prosecution of welfare fraud. Mills sued LePage for barring the public from a public meeting.
Tardy is a former lobbyist and former state House minority leader.
Legislators also re-elected Democratic Secretary of State Matt Dunlap, Democratic State Auditor Pola Buckley and independent Maine Treasurer Terry Hayes. Hayes faced competition from former Democratic Rep. Adam Goode.

The biggest question facing the newly sworn in members of Maine’s legislature is whether they and GOP Gov. Paul LePage will play nicely as they tackle the big issues facing the state.
Legislators arrived in the Statehouse on Wednesday to take the official oath of office, and will return on January 4.
November’s election left the Legislature increasingly divided, and GOP Gov. Paul LePage and the Democrats’ House Speaker Sara Gideon are already at odds over oversight of a proposed mental health facility.
LePage has gained national headlines this year for fending off an impeachment effort and controversial comments about minorities. But on Wednesday, he asked legislators to work with him on lessening the impact of a minimum wage hike and income surtax increase.
