Indonesian military copter crash kills 3

YOGYAKARTA, Indonesia – A military helicopter crashed into a house in a village near the Indonesian city of Yogyakarta on Friday, killing three of the six people aboard.

Army spokesman Brig. Gen. Sabrar Fadhila said the three survivors are being treated for serious injuries.

He said the occupants of the house that the helicopter crashed into were away on holiday.

“The engine apparently lost power, but we are still investigating the cause of the crash,” Fadhila said.

The Bell 205 helicopter was flying from Solo to Yogyakarta as part of security preparations for a visit to Yogyakarta by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Saturday.

Crashes of military aircraft are common in Indonesia where the armed forces suffer chronically low funding.
