HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Authorities say a police officer was injured and a suspect was killed when shots were fired in Alabama.
Huntsville police Sgt. Jonathan Ware told news outlets that three officers responding to a call about a dispute between a mother and son Sunday night were met by an armed man.
Ware says an officer was struck by gunfire, and another officer fired back, killing the armed man.
The wounded officer was taken to Huntsville Hospital with a gunshot to the leg and released Monday morning.
The deceased man was identified as 31-year-old William Freddy Carter.
The names of the officers involved were not released. They have been placed on administrative leave, as is common in an officer-involved shooting.
