UPDATE: 29-year-old feared missing in Nepal safe

KELOWNA – A Kelowna man who has been missing since the deadly avalanche in Nepal earlier this week has made contact with his family and is safe.

According to Global Okanagan, the family of Matt Adams, 29, say they have spoken to him and he is unhurt.

Canada’s Emergency Watch and Response Centre said Thursday afternoon that they have a file on Kelowna resident Matt Adams, 29, but could not confirm where or when he was last seen.

The avalanche and blizzard killed at least four Canadians when it hit 160 km north of Nepal’s capital Kathmandu Wednesday.

Canada’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement Thursday saying the government continues to monitor the situation.

“We are aware of Canadians who were affected by this avalanche,” the release says. “Consular officials remain in contact with family and friends and continue to provide assistance during this difficult time. We urge Canadian citizens who are in the affected area to contact and reassure their loved ones, even if they have not been directly involved in this event.”

Friends and relatives in Canada concerned about Canadian citizens believed to have been affected by the avalanche should contact the Emergency Watch and Response Centre at 1-800-387-3124.
