Police rule Rutland house fire and death ‘accidental’

KELOWNA – The body found in a Rutland house fire Monday night is not suspicious, according to RCMP investigators.

The body was found inside a home that was on fire in the 1200 block of Gaggin Road Nov. 20 around 9:30 p.m.

“Kelowna firefighters battled the blaze, conducted an interior search of the residence and later updated police that a body had been discovered inside the home,” Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says in a media release.

RCMP have turned the investigation over to the B.C. Coroners Service.

“Investigational findings, as a result of a thorough examination of the fire scene, have allowed RCMP to deem the fire and death as non-suspicious,” he says. “The blaze is believed to be accidental in nature.”
