Clinic teaches amputees, Boston Marathon victims, how to run again with prosthetic limbs

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Victims of the Boston Marathon bombing and other amputees are learning how to run again.

In a clinic at Harvard University on Sunday, several victims of the April 15 explosions were trying to run on new prosthetic legs.

Two-time Boston Marathon winner Joan Benoit Samuelson told them “There is no finish line.” She encouraged them to meet their challenges and look for new ones.

Heather Abbott lost part of her left leg in the explosion. She was fitted with a running prosthetic on Saturday and was trying it out in the rain a day later. She stopped part of the way through to check for blisters, but she had none.

The clinic was run by the Challenged Athletes Foundation, which provides equipment and training for amputees to participate in sports.
