No jail for woman who stole from school band program
A Kelowna woman who stole more than $20,000 raised by students at Okanagan Mission Secondary school will not see the inside of a jail cell, but must repay all of the money.
Elizabeth Sherwood, 47, pleaded guilty to theft over $5,000 Monday. She was the treasurer of the school band program in 2010/2011—maintained outside the school system—and had partial signing authority for its accounts. Police said in February, she forged 37 cheques.
She was sentenced to an eight-month conditional sentence order—a jail sentence served at home under conditions—and was ordered to repay $22,894.12.
Two charges of fraud and uttering a forged document were dropped in exchange for the guilty plea.
