SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – A former Puerto Rico police officer has been found guilty of trafficking drugs and of participating in a drive-by shooting that killed three people.
Carlos Velazquez Fontanez also has been found guilty of supplying ammunition to a local drug trafficking organization.
U.S. Attorney Rosa Emilia Rodriguez said Thursday that two other men were found guilty in the case, including the organization’s ringleader.
Their attorneys could not be immediately reached for comment.
Puerto Rico’s police department is undergoing a 10-year federally mandated reform after a 2011 federal report accused officers of illegal killings, corruption and civil rights violations.
