VANCOUVER – A crash involving a car and a taxi on a Vancouver bridge that serves as a major artery to the city’s downtown has left one person dead.
Police say two others were seriously hurt when the two vehicles collided on the Burrard Street Bridge just after 1 a.m. on Tuesday.
They say the collision caused one of the vehicles to burst into flames and the driver of a sports car died.
The 68-year-old driver of the taxi and his passenger, a man in his 30s, were in serious condition in hospital.
Police say the driver of the sports car lost control, crossed over the centre line and collided with the taxi.
Investigators believe speed was a factor in the crash.
The bridge reopened to traffic about 12 hours after the accident.
