Baby deer rescued from icy river in Golden

GOLDEN – A fawn stuck in freezing water on the Columbia River yesterday was rescued by two Golden conservation officers.

The mule deer fawn that broke through the ice yesterday, Nov. 30, on the Columbia River was rescued by conservation officers from Golden with the help of local RCMP and residents, according to a Facebook post by the B.C. Conservation Officer Service.

After the rescue, the deer was dried off and taken to a sheltered, dry location on the property to recover.

"After being left alone under a warm blanket for a couple of hours the fawn had recovered sufficiently to walk away on her own," conservation says in the post.
