2 Turkish pilots kidnapped in Lebanon 2 months ago appear in video

BEIRUT – Two Turkish Airlines pilots who were kidnapped in Lebanon have appeared in a video that provides the first word from the pair since their abduction in early August.

In the 32-second clip first shown on Lebanon’s LBC television on Tuesday, the two men identify themselves as Murat Akpinar and Murat Agca. They both give the date as Oct. 14 and say they are in good health.

The men in the video appeared to match photos of the two pilots previously published in the Turkish press.

Gunmen abducted the pair near Beirut’s international airport on Aug. 9.

The kidnapping appears to be linked to Syria’s civil war. A previously unknown group claimed responsibility, and linked the fate of the Turks to that of nine Lebanese Shiites held by Syrian rebels.
