Suspicious fire at West Kelowna strip mall

WEST KELOWNA – Three West Kelowna stores were damaged this morning after a suspicious fire that started in a commercial strip mall.

Around 8 a.m. Dec. 5, West Kelowna Fire Rescue were called to a structure fire on Brown Road in downtown Westbank. A media release from assistant fire chief Darren Lee says smoke was coming from a window when crews arrived.

“Upon investigation firefighters were able to find the source of the fire, which appeared to have burned itself out,” he says.

One business suffered fire and significant smoke damage, while the two adjoining businesses suffered light smoke damage.

“The fire is believed to be suspicious and West Kelowna RCMP will be the lead on this file going forward,” Lee says.

The building and the businesses are believed to be insured.

If anyone has any information pertinent to this incident they are asked to contact the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880.
