Kelowna woman blows a “warn” on Breathalyzer after hitting cyclist

KELOWNA – Alcohol played a role in a crash involving a Kelowna woman behind the wheel of a Pontiac Grand Prix and a woman on bicycle.

RCMP say the crash happened at about 5:12 p.m. on Thursday. A 43-year-old woman on a bike was hit by the Pontiac in the 1700-block of Springfield Rd.

The 23-year-old woman driving the car was making a left when she hit the cyclist.

“The cyclist, who was in quite a bit of shock, sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision and refused medical treatment,” Const. Jesse O’Donaghey says in a media release.

The drive blew a “warn” on the roadside screening device known as a Breathalyzer. As a result, she was issued with an Immediate Roadside Prohibition which means she can’t drive a vehicle for three days, police say.

Turns out she wasn't supposed to be driving anyway as she was also handed a tickets for driving without a driver’s licence, driving with no insurance and failing to yield.
