Police in suburban Phoenix say a robbery suspect has died at a senior living centre where he’d barricaded himself after being shot by an officer during a scuffle.

Lt. Michael Pooley says an officer trying to apprehend the suspect in connection with the robbery of a pharmacy shot the man once during a scuffle Wednesday morning in Tempe.

Pooley says the suspect retreated into the nearby senior centre where he barricaded himself in a storage area.

Pooley says the man who was shot matched the description of the robbery suspect, who was after pharmaceuticals.
