Torture victim says he lives in ‘constant state of confusion and fear’

CALGARY – A man who was tortured, starved and maimed by a convicted torturer says he lives in a constant state of confusion and fear.

The man, who was dropped off at a Regina hospital near death in 2010, addressed the court at Dustin Paxton’s dangerous offender hearing in Calgary.

With his two sisters at his side, the man told court he has post-traumatic stress disorder and brain damage from 18 months of assaults.

He said he has trouble sleeping, suffers anxiety and is unable to hold a job.

He said he will live with his injuries for the rest of his life.

Paxton, who sat a few metres away, smirked and shook his head during the statement.

The victim said he wants to make sure no one ever has to suffer what he did at the hands of his former friend and roommate.
