Community takes back the night tonight

PENTICTON – Tonight the community will walk together and take a stand against violence of all kinds.

The Take Back the Night march has evolved beyond just raising awareness on violence against women. It recognizes both men and women experience violence and abuse and the movement now has international reach.

March organizers will provide materials to create signs to carry during a walk down Main Street from Penticton Public Library to Gyro Park at 6:30 p.m. The march is organized by the South Okanagan Victim Assistance Society.

Resource development co-ordinator Amberlee Erdmann says "It's imperative to raise awareness about the issue of violence on the streets in Penticton."

The society supports about 1,200 people a year through counseling, court support and information to men, women and children who have experienced abuse.
