A woman who died after her vehicle plunged into Wood Lake has been identified.
The B.C. Coroners Service released early results of their investigation and says the woman's name is Elly Collins, age 59, from Salmon Arm. The accident occurred in the afternoon Dec. 19, 2012.
Collins was the driver and the only person in the vehicle involved in the single car accident on Hwy 97. She was heading northbound when her Jeep TJ went out of control and into the lake. Passersby and first responders made heroic efforts to rescue her, but it was several minutes before she could be removed from the vehicle. She was rushed to the hospital but efforts to rescuscitate her were unsuccessful.
The family of Collins has been notified of her death.
An investigation into the case by the Coroners Service and RCMP continues.
