NY startup company helps post-grad student-athletes play and earn advanced degree overseas
BUFFALO, N.Y. – A New York-based startup company is helping post-graduate college students who miss competitive sports both play and study abroad.
Former Le Moyne College athlete Lindsey Gleason started TeamGLEAS after spending a year playing volleyball at Durham University in England while earning her master’s degree in business.
Gleason says she didn’t know such situations existed before stumbling onto the opportunity through an online ad. Now she’s started Buffalo-based TeamGLEAS to spread the word.
Gleason thought her competitive playing days ended with her athletic eligibility and 2010 graduation. But she learned that eligibility isn’t a concern overseas, and universities are looking for experienced U.S. athletes who want to play while pursuing an advanced degree.
So far, 12 colleges in England are on her TeamGLEAS website. Student-athletes access it for free.
