Five people dead in northwestern Ontario TransCanada Highway crash: Police

UPSALA, Ont. – Police say five people have died in a collision on the TransCanada Highway in northwestern Ontario.

Provincial police say a westbound pickup truck collided with an eastbound commercial vehicle on Highway 17 Saturday night in the community of Upsala, outside Thunder Bay.

Sgt. Shelley Garr says the driver of the commercial vehicle died in the crash along with four people in the pickup truck.

Their names have not been released.

Investigators say two other vehicles were also damaged in the crash but there were no injuries.

Police remained on the scene Sunday as they continued to investigate.
