Kamloops woman pleading for the return of her dog’s ashes
KAMLOOPS – A Kamloops woman is pleading with an unknown thief to return the ashes of her dog that died earlier this month.
Robyn Waskowich says Diesel, her four-year-old Rottweiler, German Shepherd and Malamute cross, died from neurological issues on Dec. 2.
Waskowich went to pick up Diesel’s ashes from the vet on Dec. 8 and was planning on spreading his ashes, but couldn't do it that day. Instead, she brought some groceries inside and fell asleep.
The next afternoon, she realized several things were missing from her vehicle. On top of her purse and wallet, the box containing Diesel’s ashes was gone. The vet had put the box in a bag with Diesel’s name on it and Waskowich believes someone could have mistaken it as a Christmas present.
The large, heavy white box had been taken out of the bag by the thief.
“I just want them to bring him back,” Waskowich says. “I don’t care about my money and my wallet or anything I just want Diesel back…. All I can think about is him being dumped somewhere.”
Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says police did receive the report of the stolen ashes on Sunday. Although it was the only theft from vehicle reported on Desmond Street during that time, Shelkie says other incidents were reported on nearby streets like Southill Street and Lethbridge Avenue.
Waskowich says her purse and wallet are the least of her concerns, and that she just wants the ashes back.
She asked on her personal Facebook page for people to contact her if they believe they've found the box.
