Penticton seeks citizens for utility rate review committee

PENTICTON – The City of Penticton continues to encourage public participation in city planning with a request for citizens to participate in a rate review committee for local utilities.

In a press release issued today, Dec. 12, General Manager of Infrastructure Mitch Moroziuk says the city seeks four people to help look at current and future charges for electricity, sanitary sewer, agricultural irrigation water and treated water.

In particular, the city is looking for individuals with utility interests in residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural usage. The committee would also benefit from those with experience in accounting and financing.

The review committee is expected to meet four times between Jan. 23 and July 17, 2018, and is expected to cover such areas as: administration and overhead fees charged to the city’s utilities, adjustments to the sanitary sewer rate schedule, decoupling of Fortis BC’s power purchase increases from city controlled price increases, and revenue requirements to be met for each utility.
