Lawyer: Libyan terror suspect upset by seizure and interrogation in US case
NEW YORK, N.Y. – A new lawyer for an alleged al-Qaida member who was seized in Libya to face U.S. terror charges says his client claims he’s innocent.
The lawyer also told reporters on Tuesday that the experience of being snatched at gunpoint in front of his home and interrogated on a U.S. warship had upset Abu Anas al-Libi.
The remarks came following a hearing for the defendant in federal court in Manhattan. He’s charged in a deadly plot to bomb two U.S. embassies in Africa in 1998.
Prosecutors told a judge on Tuesday that they want the Libyan to go on trial with two other men also charged in the embassy plot. The judge put off a decision, but indicated a joint trial probably wouldn’t happen until late next year.
